Current Programming Funded by EITC at The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust:

  • School Day Matinee Series
The School Day Matinee Series presents world-class performances to school groups throughout the year. In addition to heavily discounted tickets for economically disadvantaged schools, teachers also received study guides and the opportunity to attend an Act 48 approved workshop for professional development. Each year, over 5, 000 students and educators receive reduced price tickets as part of the School Day Matinee Series.
  • Art Excursions
Twice a semester, a Trust staff member leads school/community groups through a tour of the Cultural District galleries and theaters, providing them with historical and architectural background information as well as insight into the artwork presented in the exhibitions.
  • Theater Arts Workshops
The Theater Arts Workshop offers students a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the theater with hands-on activities with Broadway artists, assists in exploring career options, and prepares students to work on their theater productions in their own schools. In 2006, the Trust added a second workshop to meet demand, yet with nearly 200 students in attendance the Theater Arts Workshops still has a waiting list and is looking to expand further.
  • ArtsMASTERS
    • Master Classes/Workshops
Students and community members are given the opportunity to take a class with acclaimed company members and artists from the Trust's season. Participants are given hands-on experience in the performing arts (dance, musical theater, music, etc.) and learn repertory from the show. Each year, over 1,200 students and members of the community participate in the Trust's master classes.
    • Lectures/Cast Sessions
Participants are given the opportunity to learn more about the show (pre- or post-show talks), learn about the show from behind-the-scenes (open load-in), or engage in a discussion or Q&A session with the cast members (cast session).

Future Programming Plans

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust plans to open the Cultural District's first Arts Education Center in fall 2008, allowing the Trust to dramatically increase its educational programming. EITC gifts will become increasingly important during this time of growth, and we hope that we can count on your business to support this wonderful new asset to the Pittsburgh community.
